Interview of the month, June 2006
Here you can read 10 "edgy" questions given to two people from and regarding Atlantis.

This month we have the two original and nowadays not so young ship's boys, Thomas Barsøe and Henrik Silas Winther, giving us their answers.

1. How was it to be back at the Anniversary Concert 10 years after Bellevue?
- Really nice! A lot of old friends I hadn't seen since Østre Gasværk. And a lot of them couldn't recognize me at all... I guess I must have changed quite a bit since my days as a ship's boy! Haha! (Editor: You have!)

1. How was it to be back at the Anniversary Concert 10 years after Bellevue?
- It was cool! Always nice to see old friends and getting aquainted with other people.

2. How were you picked for the role back then?
- I was chosen to take part at Bellevue the first time after Peter, Thomas and Sune saw me perform as Oliver in Espergærde Ungdomsskoles performance of Oliver Twist. After Bellevue I was, like the rest of us, at an audition at Østre Gasværk. Twice, as I remember it.

2. How were you picked for the role back then?
- Ooh, tough to remember. I think Sune Svanekier called me, he was at the time my musical and drama teacher at Espergærde Ungdomsskole.

3. How much has Atlantis been an influence on your career afterwards?
- Probably more than I am normally willing to admit... haha!

3. How much has Atlantis been an influence on your career afterwards?
- Tough again! It's hard to say. I definately got hooked when I as a young teenager at the time took part on the big stage for the first time. And I learned a whole lot about life both on and off the stage.

4. Tell us a little bit about your music and theatre career.
- I continued a couple of years down the musical road in London and I performed among others as Marius in Les Miserables, which was a major experience but at the same time I quickly found out, that this wasn't my kind of life. The musical as genre is a bit too inflexible and monotonous for my temper. 7 shows a week... same songs, same time, same place....

Then one day soccer results came to my mind as I was singing "Empty Chairs". Then I realized that perhaps this isn't exactly my call in life... Today I write and sing my own songs for a living, and at the moment I'm in New York, busy writing and recording songs for my next album, which will be released at EMI at the end of the year. At the same time I'm preparing a world tour in July.

4. Tell us a little bit about your music and theatre career.
- As an amateur I did a lot of different things, from big shows in Vietnam with Espergærde Ungdomsskole to "Jeanne d'Arc" on Gladsaxe Theatre. After graduating from "Millennium Dance 2000" in London I have as a professional been in the cast of:

"Aladdin" - Kings Theatre – Glasgow

Filmen "Vera Drake" by Mike Leigh

"Tommy" - Fredericia Theatre

"Sommer I Tyrol" – Nørrebro's Theatre

"Atlantis" - Århus/Vejle Music Theatre

"West Side Story" – Fredericia Theatre

And in the next season I will be in "Mød Mig På Cassiopeia" at Nørrebro's Theatre

5. What has been the funniest experience with Atlantis?
- The everyday life in the male dressing room on Østre Gasværk... So many great stories, a lot more than I can tell about here... But let's just say that I stormed right through puberty with the speed of lightning through the two short years Atlantis was running on Østre Gasværk and lived through everything from the first love of my life, the first time I had sex, beer and poker nights... And Morten Grunwald, who wiped off my make-up with his spit.... And last but not least... a very well documented case of chlamydia!... Oh well... haha!

5. What has been the funniest experience with Atlantis?
- Definately to get to meet so many wonderful people! Both on and off the stage.

6. Which character in Atlantis would you like to play, besides your "own" as a ship's boy?
- Well, that would probably have to be Silvan... The first blond one ever! Haha!

6. Which character in Atlantis would you like to play, besides your "own" as a ship's boy?
- On the tour of Denmark in 2005 I was lucky enough to play several different characters, from the funny courter to a mean soldier. But I could maybe do a flying siren!?!

7. Which song from Atlantis do you like the most?
- "Song Of The Courters"!... Joking!!!... "Far And Distant Places" and "Prayer to Ba'al-zebub"...

7. Which song from Atlantis do you like the most?
- "Epilogue" = afterparty beer :-)

8. Besides Atlantis of course, which other musicals do you like?
- "Les Miserables", "Miss Saigon", "Blood Brothers"....

8. Besides Atlantis of course, which other musicals do you like?
- I'm crazy about "Little Shop Of Horror" and of course "Les Mis" and "Miss Saigon"

9. Who are your idols?
- Stevie Wonder, Prince, Maxwell, Ronaldinho and... Peter Spies...haha!

9. Who are your idols?
- I never really had idols as such, but I always liked Tim Curry and Bernadette Peters very much, and a talent like John Barrowman's one must also recognize.

10. And finally: Pop or musical?
- Whoops... think I got to that already in question 4... ;-)

10. And finally: Pop or musical?
- Both, on separate occasions...

Forrige - Næste
